From never-ending options of shrimp and grits dishes and guest chef demonstrations, to live music, and a Craft Brew Tasting, the annual Shrimp & Grits: Wild Georgia Shrimp Festival is a true playground for good (and tasty) times.

Whether you plan to eat your way through the festival with the many shrimp & grits vendor booths, would rather shop to your heart’s content with the arts and crafts showcase, or want to bounce the weekend away at the Kids Fun Zone, there is something for everyone at this 8th annual foodie fest.

These three days of food, friends and family-fun start with the $3 Sample Night on September 20, then continue on September 21 and 22 with more food vendors, live music and performances, cooking demonstrations from skilled chefs, and plenty of games, activities and even pony rides in the Kids Fun Zone. Coinciding with the outdoor fun is the 2nd Annual Craft Brew Tasting, set up in the (air-conditioned) Morgan Center, offering dozens of beer varieties from the Southern Eagle Distributors line-up.

New this year, Southern Living has joined the fun, providing the Songwriter in the Round showcase at the “Rah” Bar on the Jekyll Island Wharf. Songwriter Rob Crosby will entertain guests at this free, plugged-in show, set to begin at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21.

Want to upgrade your shrimp-tastic weekend? Opt for a VIP Pass. VIPs Pass-holders receive up-close parking, passes for $3 dish samples, passes for lunch and dinner both Saturday and Sunday, a festival poster, a 1 lb. bag of stone-ground grits, plus access to the ultra-cool off spot, the VIP tent. An extra bonus? VIP ticket-holders receive exclusive access to their own bar, free admission to the Craft Brew Tasting, as well as an invitation to the Southern Living meet and greet.

General admission to the festival is free. VIP Packages are $72 each and can be purchased at the festival website. Admission to the Southern Living: Songwriter in the Round is free.


Consumer’s Choice: Amateur Competition

The theme of Shrimp & Grits: The Wild Georgia Shrimp Festival is simple: Eat. Sip. Enjoy. Repeat! This year, you can take that idea to an even higher level by becoming a guest judge! At this foodie fest, guests can have their say about which dish they loved the most by joining a Consumers’ Choice Panel.

During the Saturday portion of the festival, the first 30 guests to sign up for the Consumers’ Choice Panel will taste each dish prepared by the Amateur Chef Competitors, then vote of the cream of the crop dish. The panel of guests-turned-judges tastes all the offered variations of the classic coastal cuisine served by Shrimp & Grit competitors of their chosen day, then votes on their top choice. The winner of the Consumers’ Choice Panel will be presented their award at the ceremony later that day.

Joining the Consumers’ Choice Panel is $25 per person, per day. Guests can register on the festival website or at the Guest Information Tent on Pier Road at the festival. Spaces are limited and offered on a first come, first served basis.

Consumers’ Choice: Professional Competition

On Sunday, the Consumers’ Choice Panel is given an opportunity to taste each dish prepared by the Professional Chef Competitors, then votes on which dish they prefer. The winner of the Consumers’ Choice Panel will be presented their award at the ceremony later that day.

Joining the Consumers’ Choice Panel is $25 per person, per day. Guests can register on the festival website or at the Guest Information Tent on Pier Road at the festival. Spaces are limited and offered on a first come, first served basis.
